There are plenty of tablets that run android. Its unlikley that you will find a pc based solution not taxing your glider's power infrastructure too much. X86 CPUs are notoriously power inefficient. ARM based devices have greater milage. That being said.. there are some pc boards which are interesing: [6] The pcengine boards suck about 5 Watts and they can even run a full blown operating system. (defenetly NOT recommended.) (you don't want to be installing updates while on task...) However that does not solve the display problem. While there are several sunlight readable displays: * Pixel QI [7] (only avaiable in 10 inch.. still requires a pc) * Mirasol [8] (available q1 2011) The later being the most interesting. Mirasol displays are e-paper screens with color and a screen update rate of about 12 frames per second. They require not backlighting so they are very power efficent. These will be built into e-readers and hopefully available cheap. Once these become available I think it will be possible to create the ultimate soaring instrument with xcsoar. - Folken [1] http://www.craggyaero.com/ [2] http://www.naviter.si/seeyou-mobile/announcing-oudie.php?Itemid=80 [3] http://www.lxnavigation.si/avionics/ [4] http://www.andro-tablets.org/ [5] http://flarm.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=426 [6] http://pcengines.ch/ [7] http://www.makershed.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=MKPQ01 [8] http://www.mirasoldisplays.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Lotusphere 2011 Register now for Lotusphere 2011 and learn how to connect the dots, take your collaborative environment to the next level, and enter the era of Social Business. http://p.sf.net/sfu/lotusphere-d2d _______________________________________________ Xcsoar-user mailing list Xcsoar-user@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/xcsoar-user
