Hi David, I also have a 310 and connected it successfully. There are several sources out in the net concerning the serial 310 connectivity.
The 310 has a not documented debug interface on the usb connector. It is a RS232 with TTL (3.3V) voltage levels. You need a voltage converter like http://picprojects.org.uk/projects/simpleSIO/ssio.htm and an 5V power supply line. To activate the hidden RS232 interface you have to shortcut two of the miniUSB lines by proper cabeling. Set XCSoar port A to COM3 (miniUSB) and port B to COM7, wich is connected to the internal GPS.
