Does anybody know the algorithm used by software version 4.06 for the
SDI C4 vario? Previous software versions only calculated the wind while
circling, but version 4.06 also recalculates at intervals during cruise.
The result has its inaccuracies: the calculated cruise wind differs by
around 2 kts and 15 degrees from the circling wind, but that seemed to
be good enough unless you were to really cut the safety height to the
minimum. If anybody in Germany knows Herr Pochl it may be possible to
get the algorithm since SDI has stopped making the C4 in favour of
Zander varios but, since the C4 has a pitot connection, the algorithm
may well depend on knowing the IAS and so may not work on a PDA or PNA.
