My ancient HTC Magic (one of the first Android phones) has a
transflective display.

Transflective displays don't sell well because you can't see the
advantage inside mobile phone shops, with no real sunlight.  Those
AMOLEDs look so much fancier with their bright colours.

I disagree, neither AMOLED nor any of its "advanced" versions can
compete with the Streak's transfletive display in sunlight.
