Yes.

First, I'm going to try to get them to send me some hardware, or at maybe give 
me a discount.  I take it they haven't sent you anything.  Let me know if 
you've already talked to them about that.

Such varios might be a good case for open-source hardware development.  Part of 
the problem with all of this seems to be that there are several tiny companies 
making almost-good devices; which, owed to the small series and high 
development cost, lead to prices that seem astronomical compared to much more 
complex high-volume, high-tech devices like smart phones.  I really liked the 
idea of an open-source sensor package.  Maybe that's a start.
