As others said, consider living with a Dell Streak 5 rather than the 7. See here for a direct comparison of the Streak with the popular HP iPAQ 310/314 and an iPhone 4: http://www.davids-world.com/bigtrip/streak5_vs_ipaq310/index.html (I also used to have older PDAs such as a Dell Axim x51v and various Palms, which were all (apart from the very first Palm Pilot) pretty much unreadable in our application. The 310 was the first device I found readable in a glider, though its power problems marred an otherwise useful piece of kit.)
