I am using the external wind from my 302 and it is noticeable more accurate and
responsive than the internal 302 calculation. If you get wrong readings your
302 airspeed may need calibration. Also the temperature sensor needs to be
working correctly to be able to calculate TAS correctly.
Having said that, I wish the 302/XCSoar were capable to calculate wind changes
instantaneously when flying in straight lines. I believe most flight computers
can't since it requires compass data. When flying in convergence over mountain
terrains as we mostly do where I fly, wind direction keeps changing all the
time and it is crucial to know the direction especially when getting below the
ridges.
