My CAI302 works extremely well with XCSoar. With hx4700 (COM1: 4800), Android/Bluetooth (K6-Bt, Glidertools, Soartronic), Android/IOIO (UART1 4800), Linux/Bluetooth, Linux/USB-RS232, Windows/USB-RS232. Does the "Generic" driver work? The CAI302 driver has some special initialisation code to put the CAI302 into NMEA mode (just in case it's not yet), which may break when you have a flaky cable.
