I am absolutely amazed how little battery XCSOAR consumes on my HTC Android (Desire S).
(in comparison to the old Windows Mobile version). It seems mandatory though that you put your phone into flight mode, as it will otherwise constantly try to re-connect to a distant GSM mobile tower and runs down on battery very fast. That will deactivate the mobile phone connection and should save a bit of battery. The other idea would be to have an external USB battery powering your phone when it runs out of power.
