I have build couple test systems using IOIO boards and TTL/RS232 level
sifters. What comes to the electric connections and data communication that
works. But there are problems with electric noise, so you can expect some
radio disturbances. Therefore the Soartronic UART extension board has some
"extra" components added for filtering.
I also recommend using metal housing. All serial communication cables
should be shielded, and shield grounded.
If you use Soartronic solution, you can also feed 12V to your FLARM unit
over one RS232 cable. It also has build-in splitter, so that you can have
both IOIO communication and external display connected simultaneously.
(no switches for declaration needed).
