Hi Ian > I hope this is the correct forum to discuss "Skylines".
yes, for now this is one of the correct forums ;) > I have been playing with the "live tracking" feature to log from XCSoar > directly onto the website. That would probably be a good idea, but so far there is no intelligence attached, we simply show the GPS fixes and nothing more. We are thinking about such stuff, but with XCSoar 6.4 we first wanted to find out if the coverage is good enough at all for proper live tracking. > 2) I notice that the logs "expire" and disappear from the website after > some hours. The log is no longer shown in the list if the last submitted point was more than 6 hours ago. The map is showing the points of the last 12 hours. The log is kept in the database though, so we could indeed implement a feature for SAR services for example. > - What happens to the expired logs - are they just deleted or are they > archived somewhere? They are "archived" in our database, as in: they are not being edited, just not shown anymore (for now...). > - What happens if we have a real search and rescue situation, how can we > get access to an archive of an expired flight? Contact us immediatly and we can have a look at the raw data in the database. I have though about adding a live tracking archive function, but I haven't had the time yet to add something like that. > - Could we have some way of "posting" a live track log from the live > tracking page to the normal flight log page where uploaded flight logs > are listed? Hmm, difficult. Experience has shown that live tracking coverage often isn't that great, so we prefer the usual IGC logs. We will hopefully soon have an IGC file auto-upload feature in XCSoar though. > 3) I cant see any means of downloading an IGC or similar file from the > live log page. Either that or probably even a KML file for google earth for example. Certainly a good idea, please create a ticket for that on our bug tracker! > 4) What happens if the glider looses GPRS communications for a portion > of the flight, but later re-establishes the link. It is kept very light-weight to increase the chance of a successful submisson at the cost of having no confirmation whether it has been received or not...
