Note that you can enable the "test" backend by adding "test"
in /etc/sane.d/dll.d/test . Edit /etc/sane.d/test.conf in order to
choose how many virtual device you want, what do you wish they show,
etc.

Great!  That'll definitely be a lot of help.

I will gladely help you writing SANE support (i begin to be quite
familiar with SANE :) ).

Thanks for the support, I'm hoping to eventually make it detect
devices and load the drivers on its own instead of going through the
SANE dll backend, so it can work with HAL and the device UDIs.
