I think that it would be better if, beside the gio/kio indirection it
was also possible to specify protocol for applications that don't use
vfs but still understand a given protocol, or use vfs but also
internally support the same or other protocols. This would also
allow for specifying more than one vfs. So the key would be something
like
protocol=gio;https;kio;
