For cases like this, perhaps a "xid=" field could be optionally added to specify the X window ID of the actual icon or screen area. This field, if present, would supersede the pixel coordinates if they are present, and would make it unnecesasry to update the information in the _NET_WM_TRAY_ICON_GEOMETRIES property if the icon ends up at another screen location, ie. user moves the panel containing the tray/indicator, and so on.
