Or you could skip the test if you find LFENCE isn't serializing on AMD. After all the hypervisor now makes it serializing wherever it can, and it is serializing on the two families where the respective MSR doesn't exist. Of course the question is whether seeing the raw (host) value of that MSR is actually something such a test should be permitted to rely upon; Andrew may have very specific thoughts on this.
