XPath Support in Xalan1.4 using Xerces 2.1 DOMNode

Does the XPath implementation in Xalan 1.4 meant to work with xerces2.1 DOM document? How do I convert a DOMNode to XalanNode etc? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
