There aren't really any 'under the bottom' type of changes in the interfact
to the platform drivers planned before the next release, so you should be
safe enough. We will probably add the pluggable support for socket based
sources (HTTP, FTP) for the next release, but this should be an easy change
to catch up with later, since it won't require much effort on the part of
the platform driver code (unless you want to provide your own pluggable
socket support implementation using local services directly.) But our first
cut at it will likely be based on LibWWW, which is a freeware library that
everyone should be able to use.

Ok, seems reasonable - anyone else who's interested in working on a
FreeBSD port should make themselves known now, otherwise we'll report
back when we've got something people can use.

I suppose. It's just tricky keeping the patches completely up to date
with the CVS tree IMO.
