I meant to say if he's using a binary drop which had the library build with
CC compiler and if he's compiling the samples of that binary build with gcc
then it can give problems.

  Which is not to say that it won't work.  I just finished building
Xerces-C
(and the sample including DOMPrint) with gcc 2.95.1 on a Solaris 2.6
machine.
I did have to change a couple of things in the Makefile.incl since my gcc
is
not installed in /usr/local, but that doesn't look like your problem.
