Hi Arnaud and all,
I'd definitely give a +1 to this operation, but I'd like to see us wait a
few days before we go ahead. The reason is that, with all the bugfixes
that have gone in since 1.4.2--and especially with Arnaud's DOM
reorganization--we should put out a Xerces-J 1.4.3. I can't see why this
shouldn't happen early next week.
So why don't we do this switch after 1.4.3 comes out? This may well mark
the final release of Xerces 1; switching it to a branch at that point would
definitely signal to the world that X2 is the primary focus of this
community's development efforts.
What do people think?
Cheers,
Neil

Subject: X1 vs X2 and the CVS main branch
I apology if that has been discussed already but I can't afford going
through all the backlog of email I have.
If we don't plan to do any other major release of Xerces 1 we should
probably consider moving it to a branch and moving X2 to the trunk. It's
a cumbersome operation but it's not really difficult. It does require
some acquaintance with CVS and coordination though.
The main advantage is that branches off branches don't work well in CVS.
So, moving X2 to the trunk would allow us to use branches more easily
for X2. Which shouldn't be so much needed any more for X1 if all we do
there is bug fixes.
I'd be happy to take care of this operation when we're ready.
