Well, I've done that once. That one was easy to fix, and I did just that.

However, with Xerces being an important part of for instance IBM's (and
other's) products, I would have hoped that reporting something that
definitively is a conformance bug (in the parser!, not in the DOM) would
have created somewhat more activity.
