Do you mean with "fontbook" Apple's Font Book application?

Is the font file a plain file or does it have a very small size, 0 bytes for example? Such a file needs processing, with for example fondu.

Another failure on your Linux PC might be that the font still has not been cached in the (lib)fontconfig system – see fc-cache, fc-list, fc- match commands.

What does the file command on your Linux PC tell you about the ulhi8a font file?
