It looks to me like this is not XeTeX-specific but is linked to a change in (x)divpdfmx and related config files: http://tug.org/svn/texlive?view=revision&revision=30175 (versions of xetex.def before this do not give the issue). As noted by Herbert Voss, w.eps is really a PS file.
