Never mind. I'm an idiot! After re-re-re-reading the installation notes at http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=163323 I saw the part about copying the config file to /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.
All better now. Thanks to all who helped. Jim -----Original Message----- From: Eiler, James A. I've done the XFree86 -configure and have a file called XF86Config.new (contents below). On my QNX box, XF86Config.new resides in my /root directory. After running XFree86 -configure, it tells me to test the configuration by running: XFree86 -xf86config /root/XF86Config.new I do, and I get an X-windows session (I think) but no icons to click. Just the mouse pointer to move around.... If I try "startx", I get the error I wrote about initially - no screens found. Any more help out there? The pie in the sky goal would of course be to make it work /without/ a configuration file unless the hardware was really strange...] Ok, you have no configuration file. Do you have a sample file you can modify? Have you read http://www.xfree86.org/4.2.0/XF86Config.5.html ? (should be the same as man 5 XF86Config but one never knows) What hardware do you have? You can also try: XFree86 -configure which should generate a configuration file for you (which might work straight away or might need some further hand tuning). -Peter _______________________________________________ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86 _______________________________________________ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86 _______________________________________________ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86
