Hi

I am fairly a newbie to configuring XFree86, and I am having problems with an
ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 on
a laptop Compaq Evo N610c. The information provided by /sbin/lspci about the
card is:

I am using Suse8.0 (Xfree86 4.2.0). Xfree86 only works with the fbdev driver (I
used it
following suggestions of the Suse support). However it is fairly slow.
The drivers ati and radeon, provide a "fuzzy" image (text and images
aren't clear).

I read several internet articles about people that uses this card (or
similar) on other laptops. The XF86Config files provided buy them don't
work in my system. Some of that people suggested me to upgrade to XFree86 4.2.1.
I did it, following the distribution of XFree86 4.2.1 by SUSE in
http://www.suse.de/en/private/download/xfree86/index.html (in fact they name it
4.2.0
but state that all the patches for 4.2.1 are already included).
But XFree86 again only works with fbdev (ati and radeon have the same problem).
fbdev, however,
works better (e.g., some applications doesn't crash, as Vmware).

I don't understand why other people can use this graphic card and I cannot.
Is a problem of the Compaq EvoN610c? Or is a problem or the Suse XFree86
distribution?
One person suggested me to get the source of XFree86 and compile from scratch on
my
machine. Do you believe that will work? Would'nt it interfere with the current
.rpm suse packages
about Xfree86?

Sorry, a lot of questions, but I am completely lost. I already asked to some
linux-experts of my University, and they don't know what to do.

Thanks in advance.
