I had this problem too. I believe it's a bad interaction between
Xcursor and hardware cursor acceleration. I was able to work around
the problem by adding
Option "SWcursor" "true"
to my Device section. This was for the radeon driver, mind you. I
don't know if other cards/drivers use the same option for that.
