Description: Right-clicking in the NEdit text window normally activates a popup menu. Sometimes, in addition to this menu appearing, the entire screen will go black and the monitor will eventually give a 'no signal message'. The screen goes back to normal as soon as I release the right mouse button or move the mouse. Because the screen blanking looked like the DPMS screensaver, I tried killing xscreensaver, but it still happened. I then tried 'xset -dpms' to turn off the XFree86 internal DPMS scrensaver. This worked, and the problem came back when I turned it back on later. The problem doesn't seem to occur soon after starting a new X session. It starts happening sometime later (I'm still not sure what starts it) and doesn't stop until I logout and restart 'GDM'. The NEdit folks say that NEdit is not the only program with this problem and that they can't even blame Motif. I have not been able to trigger this bug with another applications myself. As I said in the description, I don't know what starts this but it keeps happening until I restart the X server. Sometimes it even seems survives a restart of the X server. I ran 'init 4' to shut down GDM after this had been happening. I then ran startx from a virtual console login. I was able to cause this immediately this way, even after logging out and running startx again. I ran 'init 5' to start GDM and logged in that way.
