No, the earthlink webpage I used from Winblows to send you that message did not save the message to my sent folder, so I'll have to recreate it. Basically my problem is that I can't get the keyboard working when starting the XServer under Mandrake 9.0. It works ok up until I have to log in, then nothing, and I can't enter a password to complete the login process. The only thing I can do is reboot. Mouse works fine. Everything great using ATI Radeon 64MB VIVO, MDK 9.0, XFree86 4.2.0 (I think, so many damn versions to remember) 2. Switched the video card to new Radeon 9700 Pro. No, this was not a good idea without doing something with the video drivers first. 3. System screwed up and wouldn't boot. No surprise. It was getting hung up on sendmail, and I think something in the network was bit wacky from the switch, but I know the video would have messed up anyway. 4. Tried to install the new ATI drivers from thier web page. No go as RPM did not seem to like them. 5. Looked around and found you had a beta release to support the 9700 Pro. 6. Downloaded and installed 4.2.99.3. 7. Ran "XFree86 -configure" 8. Tested the config, but nothing really happened. Got a gray graphics screen and mouse, but nothing else. 9. Decided there was not enough support for a good test, so copied the XF86Config.new file to XF86Config and rebooted. 10. Here are my steps to booting: a. Lilo boots up and gives selection screen b. Select the default "linux" selection, wich equates to a graphics server and network configuration. c. Note that the keyboard is working at this point. d. Messages scroll by as system boots. Everything reports OK e. Screen goes blank for a few seconds. This is normal. f. Login screen appears. 11. Things looked good, but keyboard not working when I try to log in. Oh, and I don't think the mouse was working at this point. 10. Edited the XF86Config file to put in the keyboard definitions from the old config file. Rebooted. 11. Still no keyboard at login, but mouse not working and not complaining. 12. Edited the termcap file with the data included in your termcap release file. Rebooted. 13. Still no keyboard at login. 14. Looked around for data or something like a forum where I might get some info. No go. Guess I'm still too much a newbie in the comunity. 15.
