I'm currently running XF86 4.2.99.902 on a radeon 7000/VE with fvwm2 2.4.14. I'm also using the whiteglass theme. Between .901 and .902, I noticed that, when I move the mouse out of a client window and onto the root window, the first time the pointer is refreshed after focus is moved to the root window, there's an artifact that shows up for just that refresh. I've drawn an example of what I'm seeing, to give you an idea. Hopefully others have seen this, too.

I tried this on twm with the redglass cursor theme (export XCURSOR_THEME=redglass before startx -- :1 .. then fiddle with the terminals, since the display goes to sleep .. different bug, though) and noticed the same thing, when exiting a client window, and entering the root window. I didn't notice it as often, though, as I do in fvwm2. I'm guessing this is due to fewer pointer changes. Fvwm2 has the side handles, where the cursor changes to the arrows pointing to a line which is parallel to the side of the window, where as twm has no side handles, just the titlebar.
I did not notice this artifact when using the 'core' cursor theme.
Anymore info needed or patches you'd like me to try, let me know. As I indicated in the subject, this is not critical -- nothing locks up -- but it's annoying and dirty.
Thanks.
