   So you used to have them (in some pre 4.3 CVS) and now you
don't?  I don't know.  That wouldn't be a driver issue. 
It's Xlib that substitutes normal X cursors for the translucent
ones with the drop shadow.  For example you can force Xlib
to not substitute by setting the environment variable
XCURSOR_CORE to non-zero.  Maybe Keith Packard has some
ideas why this would stop working.
