I've seen stuff like this on a Win2k Server machine. Usually, if I just 
wait a couple seconds after switching to this machine, the mouse seems 
to work fine. If I switch and immediately start to use the mouse, it 
jumps around.

So, maybe try waiting a couple seconds after switching to the Linux machine.
