Under 'Section Device' for radeon in XF86Config try putting Option "AGPMode" "8" Option "AGPFastWrite" "True"
A "man radeon" should give you more details. DGA is slow on my radeon 7500, but this is only for the agp8x thing you mentioned.
Caution "EnablePageFlip" option hangs X on switching console.
