days and may use them in some fashion. As far as the command line tools, is there anything in particular in mind for an "upgrade" or do we just want to further them and convert to the new API?
They won't need to be converted to the new API since they're built on top of the XML:DB API. The problem with them is that they're user hostile and just generally klunky. There just needs to be a lot of cleanup to make them more consistent, provide better messages and errors and just overall be more user friendly. There's also some annoying things like confirmation on deletes that just don't feel right to me. Overall I just think we can simplify things a lot. Maybe reducing the number of concepts. Personally, I'd like to see XMLObjects die, they're cumbersome as all hell to work with. Also there's really no need for two commands, that was a stupid idea.
Yes it was mine. :-)
Summed up, reduce complexity, be a friend to the user and enhance flexibility.
BTW, I think the long term goal should be to replace them completely with a SiXDML interpreter so that using Xindice would be more like using a traditional database. Dare Obasanjo is supposed to be working on an implementation. We'll see how this shapes up over time, but for now I think we can improve the current tools a lot.
Actually, that's what I meant (converting it to Java/JSP). If Jan agrees,
then merging
the WebDAV side of Xincon with a JSP version of the web admin would be very
cool indeed.
Cool!
