Yes it does work. Here's what you need to do. Find a utility that will print out the contents of an IOR. JacORB has one so you can download that to get it. In JacORB, I think the program is org.jacorb.orb.util.PrintIOR.
Use that utility to print out the contents of the file docs/db_bootstrap.
ior. Look at the host that is getting written to the IOR. If the name that is written there is not resolvable from the remote machine then you won't be able to connect.

I just tested this on my home network and had exactly this problem. This is just one of the many really terrible features of CORBA and one of the many reasons that the first version of Xindice after 1.0 will no longer use CORBA at all.

To resolve it I just made sure the name resolved and then I was able to connect fine.

Subject: Re: XIndice as Servlet

There isn't anything ready made to do this, but it certainly is possible. In fact in the future that's probably the way we'll run all the time. Take a look at org.apache.xindice.server.Xindice.java to see how the server bootstraps.

Hi,
is there a possibility to run the whole xindice as servlet in tomcat
engine? the idea is to host a wepapp using tomcat and xindice but all
providers i found only let me install some servlets to their server. so
an own java process seems to be impossible.
when i could convince xindice to run as servlet my problems would be
solved.
