I have just uploaded 1.5 to unstable ;-)

Did you try setting the polling time to a large value?
You can also disable polling and use ctrl+k to get rig info.
See what that gives...

Errr, I can only think of xlog timing issues at the moment.
rigctl seems to behave well.
