Ok, there are no filters in use, and all the users were added before the server went 
live. I also use a Win32 app to add/edit user settings.. such as aliases etc.

I'm very pleased to hear that you had a bounce message, but I'm puzzled as to why I 
didn't recieve one when I performed the exact same test. Very odd.
Would you still like me to post a copy of server.tab ?
