This means that there was a message in the queue that was awaiting delivery 
and it failed. IIRC, the default for delivery is to make 32 attempts to 
deliver, with a certain amount of time in-between. Typically this kind of 
failure can take up to 24 hours to achieve, so it's possible that this mail 
was already in the queue at the time you turned off relaying.

The best way to see if you are having people using your server for relaying 
is to check your SMTP log - if you show messages from hosts outside your 
domain addressed to hosts outside your domain (other than those that show 
ERELAY in the status field), you may have relaying happening.
