Goesta,
Thank you for your rfc information. However, I do know where to find that
kind of information.
I was looking for an explaination as to what settings control and how it
affects xmail to generate the specific error messages. For example, xmail
will generate and error 501. But that error can be thrown based on a number
of conditions.
It would be helpful if there was a cross reference between the errors that
xmail generates and the corresponding server.tab settings or SMTP / POP3
commands.
An example would be what 'Your Name' provided in a previous email.:
error 551 - If you have reverse dns lookup enabled ("SMTP-RDNSCheck" set to
either "1" or "-1") and it fails (ie the name they gave in ehlo was not the
domain their ip mapped to); also generates an error in smtplog like 'bla bla
bla'
Does this make sense to anyone else?
Bob

Dear Bob,
a comprehensive collection of SMTP error codes (put into a nifty
list by categories and really legible ;-) ) can be found in RFC 1893
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1893.txt
