Is the rom directory and individual rom "world-readable"? Does your mdew username
have read permission to access that directory/rom?
Double-check your rompath in .xmame/xmamerc as well.
(Incidentally, your Sylpheed is a couple of versions out-of-date. 5.0 is the latest.
You might want to visit the web page http://sylpheed.good-day.net and update it.)
