Actually, it's quite feasable for DGA to be slower than X11+Shm when the blit core writes individual bytes... Why? Because the framebuffer isn't cacheable, so while sequential byte writes into system memory will be automatically merged, the same writes into the framebuffer won't; on a machine with a shared-memory on-board graphics, this *hurts*.
