yes the 104.fix is included on the cvs tree
(src/common.c has the malloc_list_size set to 0) 

as far as I can tell, on linux x86 (gcc-3.4) compilations goes fine
but any try to have something fails even ./xmame.x11 -help
no error, just nothing until I it ^C
I can provide the trace output if it may help
