Recently there have been offline discussions about the new model for
standards (Java and XML), and the respective roles of government, standards
organizations, corporations, and consortia.

The discussion has covered standardization of Java, XML, and e-business and registries.

Several participants wanted to take the discussion to a free, public forum.
If you want to participate, browse to the Dr. Dobbs web site's XML topic,
and click on the 'XML Discussion Forum' link. You don't need to join
anything -- just read and post.

Subject: XML conferences?

> In November there is the XMLOne conference in San Jose.

Not without a time machine! You must be thinking of XML DevCon 2000 in San Jose (November 12-15).

The faculty includes people involved with ebXML, including Martin Bryan, Duane Nickull, Bruce Peat and Bob Sutor. We have Bob Dolin doing an HL7 session, Geoff Brown doing a B2B exchanges session, and Brian Loesgen doing a BizTalk session.

We also have a few others worth mentioning:

- the co-inventors of SQL, SGML, and XML
- a Turing Award winner, W3C Fellow, ACM Fellow, Seybold Fellow, and STC
Honorary Fellow
- members of a variety of W3C XML Working Groups

P.S. XML One ended October 5.
