Hi,
Just to complete the answer, it is rigth that US have been around EDI many
time before EUrope
My company (which is a french new company) has many difficulties to make
people believe that EDI (and XML, EDI) is a very good way to optimize many
things in Business
England is very much more using EDI than France, so i understand your
felling when you say that people do not know what is EDI
The best way for us in France is to explain solution without using the word
EDI or EDIFACT. Everyone can understand without any problem that if you can
provid solution to help them handle their orders, order response and invoice
it will be usefull for them.
Big company in France are searching ways to communicate with east country,
so i think that EDI, XML, and Web EDI will developp in the next years
Hope this will give some more informations

Objet : RE: EDI ---> XML
Hi Gatis. In response to your thoughts, as you stated EDI is not as common
in Europe and that is exactly why US companies find or try to find
investment opportunity but more importantly offer many European businesses
EDI knowledge and expertise.
US companies have an advantage in providing their services in Europe due to
the fact that EDI has been around US for quite a while now.
Most people on this list have an expertise on EDI-related matters, others
are learning XML as its various standards are developing. EDI will be
around for a while, even with XML around, so for now it would be merely
impossible to do XML without EDI standards.
Hope this helps.
P.S. I am from the former Soviet Union myself and have been in US since 91.
I do understand the issues that you might have with EDI implementation, it
is a very tedious process. Good luck :)

Subject: EDI ---> XM
Hello
First I start with apologies, may be I write not in right direction, but
I think there is not so many places where I can write. So I am from
Latvia (Europe near Baltic sea) I follow the discussion about EDI and
XML in this list, in that time I am the project manger in company that
wants to start business to business solution offering here in Latvia.
May be you can not imagine but companies here still operate with paper
documents and nobody offers this kind of solution like EDI. In fact most
people do not know what is EDI. So what is the problem - is there any
use to start implement EDIFACT etc or better start with XML. Other
problem may be someone can help me - all VC and big companies wants to
find investment opportunities in US and West Europe, but in my opinion
its stupid because here are lot of most cases better qualified employees
for much less money.
Good luck in transforming from EDI to XML, I hope we will have at least
EDI :-)
Best Regards,
Gatis Kaleinis
