YEAH!
MY MAN SAID THAT!
He put that word "key" in just the right place, too.
BUT, it is their way or the hiway in too many cases. Yet, as "described"
above, the solution response seems clearly at hand.
A long time ago, ...,
we attended a meeting w/Ford to "GO EDI". What resulted seems to go
unrecognized in this forum. They did "have to" impose some variances on
vendors, but they had committed to working together. For the most part that
happened. The real causes of variances were their corp. "from down on high"
DEADLINES. So they just "mashed it thru".
Those "from on high" however, got exactly what they had taken a stake in.
After as little as one year, the Purch. Dept. payroll/body-count had been
SLASHED! (mostly by attrition and reassignment).
After a year (second year of implementation, first year for invoicing)
phase two; invoicing, the Accounts Payable Dept, DITTO!
Their bottom line went on to show all that in those years, in a big way.
Got it?
My client's printer printed out POs. (like printing money, they said), they
shipped the material, the EDI invoice must have worked, because the checks
showed up!, in TEN DAYS!!!!. Ford's management did just that. A
dept./Section head authorized an expense for a purchase, out of his
boss'/groups' budget, and that was that. Whatever they spend their money on,
they get to, they answer for it, they consume it, the meet their goals or
they are gone. Period. That's management, the real one. If you don't
trust'em, how come you still got'em?
They want more. Those managers have moved up. They are mentoring now. They
REALLY have something to teach (I just spoke of it).

Jim Cunningham
