One should also remember that PGP encryption has compression as a
by-product. Where business communicators prefer to use RSA, many of the
proposed standards for security include compression as an option (EDIINT and
ebXML messaging).

Although for me the odd 10% or 20% here is not so significant - 
but at least the article allows you to assess based on your own
needs.

Remember V90 modems include builtin on the wire compression
using PKZIP / Huffman algorithms.
