Hello,
I am not sure about all the products but some of these I have some experience/knowledge.
Sterling Commerce Gentran Server -
Works with an Oracle database and the tech support team will help you with Oracle issues. Takes time to configure and getting it going...but once you do it's a smooth ride.
Has it's own communication tool with scripting. So you can communicate not only through VAN but also through
FTP, VAN, EMAIL. If you are plannig to integrate with your Accounting/Purchasing system all data has to be exported through flat files to your Account/Purchasing/ERP system.
You have to do most of the stuff yourself they just send you CDs with a lot of documentation and you can call tech support.
We pay $9,000 tech support/year. VAN costs are not the best in the industry but VAN service is reliable.
But remember requires a lot of time to configure this baby and get it to work. Will run on NT/UNIX/AS400
Softshare -
Very cool and modern style looking software packages. I have never used their software...but our suppliers and coleagues that have are pretty happy with them. I am not sure how reliable it is and what database it uses. ONe thing I know for sure is that they are a little smaller company and more flexible and can do custom stuff...not big like Sterling Commerce (owned by SBC). Might be a good choice if a lot your files are XML/Flat rather X12 EDI files.
Softshare is a good choice if you are looking for a company that's flexible and is willing to work with you on a one on one basis to give your needs.
Microsoft BizTalk - I am not sure if it'll run under Oracle (since it's Microsoft and they probably want to promote SQL Server) but don't qoute me on that I am not sure. As far as I know a lot of code writting and development is required to get the BizTalk going on a smooth ride. If your firm has the developers dedicated for your E-Commerce needs than might not be a bad tool. I heard it's pretty expensive like $25k. I also heard that it's very XML oriented and doesn't have too many EDI X12 options. BizTalk users usually get Microsoft Great Plains which is accounting software.
It's all in it's early stages and I really wouldn't recommend it.
Hope this helps,

Subject: Has anybody heard of TIE Commerce, Acom, Softshare, Redex EAI
softwares?
Hi,
We are NT shop with Oracle 8i DB. Mostly, we deal with federal client
projects. Typically, we receive 50% XML & edi files, 30% flat files, 20% web
forms in our inbound data. Our outbound data could be 90% flat files and up
to 10% XML files.
My company is planning for immediate technical evaluation of some of
the following products like Webmethods, Netfish/IONA, TIE Commerce, Acom,
Softshare, Redex, Sterling Commerce Integrator/Gentran, Biz Talk and Oracle
Tools etc.
Has anybody used any of these products before?
If yes, what is your views / thoughts on these products based on the
following parameters.
1. Any to Any format translation
2. Ability to handle large volume of data up to Gigs
3. Robust Security and Error handling
4. Product support and documentation
5. Scalability and Portability to platforms like NT, UNIX any flavor and MVS
Appreciate your thoughts/help on this and have a great weekend.
Thanks,
Mike
