Ahh the old HIPAA quandary rears it's ugly head.
This is a very specialized area regarding transactions and the intended transport thereof.
While HIPAA is on hold and will certainly not shape your ability to send product data's
via un-encrypted EBXML, HL7. Any potential patient information could fall under sure scrutiny. In any event , I would recommend looking into EBXML based solutions.

I think a standard could be there for you but it seems that the standards are based on aligned business goals. Like Rosetta net etc.
