David,

Do you really mean censorship -
in the sense of messages killed -
or just ignorant flames?

The leadership of ebXML and UN/CEFACT
includes highly respected and influential
participants from Asia. Leading ebXML and
UN/CEFACT participants are very aware
of leading-edge implementation projects
in Korea.

I think who you get sometimes on ebxml-dev
is ignorant flamers. XML-EDI is the same way
some times. I have been insulted every which
way on both lists.

If you know of actual censorship going on
on ebxml-dev, let me know and I will
follow up with the perpetrators.

If you have particularly offensive flames,
send them to me.

Thanks,
Bob Haugen

XML/EDI is a good list with no censorship that I know of.

However, ebXML-dev do appear to censor pro-Asian development out of
their list. Maybe they wish to keep all development in Europe and
America. I can understand that. They probably feel that they are going
to a lot of effort to develop specifications and the result is that
companies in Asia are making up the designs and producing the products
for less than is possible in Western countries.

The problem is that they are delaying the inevitable which is ebXML
implemented on a chip which will be available for about $150. We know of
one company in Asia/Pacific who are tooling for this very thing.

The result will be that ebXML will truly be affordable "for every
company no matter what their size" like the ebXML home page promises.
Problem is that that wasn't really the idea of ebXML which is to keep
ebXML solely in the hands of large companies.

So, once again, there never was any claim about xml-edi being censored.
"ebxml-dev" was the list that I was talking about and it's quite
possible that myself and quite a few other people are wrong. All I know
is that there is some pretty spectacular technology about to come out of
Asia.

We'll have to wait and see if those ebXML chips are going to be any
good.

Alan:

Don't get your fur all ruffled over this! Mr. Lyon is confusing
disagreement or condescension with "censorship" on the ebxml-dev mailing
list. And to my knowledge, no one has ever "picked on" contributors
from Asia/Pacific for the sole reason of their wanting to talk about
local developments.

Mr. Lyon:

'Censorship' is a very serious charge. Who has prevented you from making
your case, and when did it occur?

Let me assure you that it has never -- repeat never -- been the policy
for the XML/edi list to prevent discussion of XML-related issues. If
anyone connected to this list has tried to prevent you from posting
messages on XML, e-business, or related issues, please let me know
immediately.

As one who took part in the initial ebXML development effort, I can tell
you that we had excellent participation from Asia, including a meeting
in Tokyo (November 2000), and I believe that participation has
continued.

CS,

You're right. Not only this but there is censorship on the mailing lists
to prevent people accross Asia/Pacific (especially on ebXML) from
talking about local issues and local developments. That's why you don't
hear anything.

We're working on ebXML on a chip and wireless ebXML. When we ask on the
ebXML for other companies to get involved we get our invitations
sensored. So much for "Open" development.

The fact is, at Global TradeDesk, we see Asia/Pacific as a hotbed for
the next development of XML based devices and products where they can be
produce affordably and with high quality.

Best Regards
