I really wonder *how* you missed these in http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/download.shtml. Did you use Internet Explorer on your PocketPC? ;-) http://www.xmlmind.net/xmleditor/_download/xxe-std-3_1_0-setup-nojvm.exe http://www.xmlmind.net/xmleditor/_download/xxe-std-3_1_0-setup.exe As explained in http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/what_to_download.html, First distribution is for those already having a Java runtime. However, I always recommend downloading and installing the second distribution which includes its own, private, Java runtime because this is simpler and safer. > I found the userguide.pdf (and also an html copy on the website) but > that only gave me manual instructions for installing the product > (section 1.3). Congratulations. Everything you did is OK. You missed nothing at all. We'll rewrite section 1.3 ("*Manual* install on Windows") for 100%-Windows users like you. First line will be "Don't do that! Download and install our setup.exe". --- PS: There are no installation instructions for the .zip distribution because there is no installation step other than unzipping the distribution. [1] Unzip it anywhere. Say C:\Temp [2] Go to C:\Temp\xxe-std-3_1_0 [3] Here you'll find subdirectories addon, bin, doc, demo, etc. [4] A bin directory in the Unix tradition contains program files. [5] Go to bin. You'll find in it xxe.exe (and also an xxe.bat for those who want to customize the way XXE is started) [6] Double-click on xxe.exe (or on xxe.bat) and, if and only if, you have an Java 1.4+ runtime already installed on your PC, it will start XMLmind XML Editor. Now, please *forget* everything I said, delete what you have done in order to run XMLmind XML Editor, then download and install one of the two xxe-*-setup*.exe (xxe-std-3_1_0-setup.exe recommended).
