The climbing paths don't pose a problem in the standalone toolkit. (BTW, I've found a workaround to that problem. See my XEP post.)
However, I found today that the full URLs *do* also fail in the standalone toolkit. Otherwise, please report this kind of problem to the DITA Open Toolkit mailing lists.
