After upgrading my installation of XXE from V. 2.8 to V. 2.11, I find
myself confronted to the task of also having to migrate my preferences
settings.

The upgrade announcement of V. 2.10 (commenting on the user directory
change that occurred then) just said "User preferences are not
automatically migrated from old directory to new one. Please use the
Options dialog box to reconfigure XXE."

However, it is hard trying to remember which preferences I might have
opted for in earlier times, while having to walk through all of the
available options...

Instead, I would prefer to merge the older and current versions of the
preferences.properties file by hand (at my own risk, of course.) To
this end, I would have to know:

1) The purpose of each property.

Unfortunately, XXE's properties as found in the user preferences file do
not seem to be documented anywhere with their precise name. So I suggest
systematically including the name of each property in the Online Help's
section on the Options dialog box, where the purpose of each option is
very well described - but without mentioning the exact name of the
corresponding property in the preferences.properties file. Currently, I
can only guess which property might correspond to which option and
experiment with the settings.

2) Whether a property has changed its status.

Preference properties might cease to exist or take new semantics in
the current version of XXE, so simply copying all property settings
from the preferences.properties file of an earlier XXE version might
not be a good idea.

IMHO, information on a property's "life" should be included in change
logs or go into the Options descriptions of the Online Help.

P.S.: XXE V. 2.11 with all of its enhancements is a miracle of an XML
editor again. Thank you for offering this great tool to the XML world!
